It's the time of year once more again !! Holi is rapidly approaching and festive necessities such as gulaal, water weapons, and gujiyaas have gained a strong foothold in our local markets. People smear themselves in gulaal and play around swings during Bengal's Dol Jatra or Dol Purnima. In Brij's Lath Maar Holi, men use sticks or long wooden staffs to protect themselves from women who chase them out - a symbolic practice connected with the legend of Lord Krishna and Radha.

HOLI SIGNIFICANCE:
Holika Dahan is a Hindu practice in which people light a massive bonfire on Choti Holi, the day before Holi. This ritual's importance is connected to the tale of Prahlad and his aunt Holika. Prahlad was the son of King Hiranyakashyap, according to Hindu scriptures. King Hiranyakashyap received a special boon that made him believe he was invincible. He soon began to view him as God, dismissing Lord Vishnu and his forces. As luck would have it, his own son was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu, much to the King's chagrin. Holika, by the way, had a boon that allowed her to walk away from the fire unscathed. As part of her devious scheme, she sat with Prahlad on her lap on the burning pyre of wood, but thanks to Lord Vishnu's intervention, it was little Prahlad who survived unharmed, rather than the princess Holika, who died from her injuries.
Rangwali Holi, also known as Dhulendi, is a spring hope festival. People colorised their faces and get drenched in water before feasting on festive delicacies later in the day.
SPECIAL & TRADITIONAL FOODS THAT DEFINE HOLI:
Just as Diwali is inconceivable without Kaju Katli, Holi is inconceivable without any homemade gujiyaa. A special fried dumpling filled with a sweet khoya, coconut, and nut stuffing. Dahi bhalla, papdi chaat, gol gappa, and aloo tikki are all common dishes in the North. Malpua is another common dessert served at the festival. The nutty, cold thandai drink keeps everyone fuelled and hydrated during the festivities. A common Holi delicacy is kachori, a crusty, puffed snack with a spicy filling. Chakli, namak paarey, and bhakarwadi contribute crunch to the ghee-laden, greasy spread.
